Adkins wins twice at Mesa State Invitational

Kurt Adkins won a pair of events as the men's swimming and diving team made an impressive showing against upper division opponents on Saturday at the Mesa State College Invitational.
 
Adkins won the 100- and 200-meter butterfly, touching the wall in 1:00.39 and 2:26.86, respectively. He also finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.63 and teamed with Asher Weinberg, Tom Grossinger and Jordan DeGayner to take second in the 200 medley relay.
 
DeGayner took second in the 800 free with a time of 9:59.38, while his clocking of 2:22.96 was good for third place in the 200 backstroke.
 
Connor Barton claimed second in the 200 free in 2:07.45, finished fourth in the 50 free with a time of 26.12, and joined Weinberg, Jack Ludwig and Jeff Nadel for a third-place effort in the 200 free relay.
 
Jonathan Dorsey's time of 2:51.31 was good for third place in the 200 breaststroke, and he took fifth place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:17.82.
 
“It was a balanced effort led by Kurt Adkins, Connor Barton, Tom Grossinger and Jordan DeGayner.,” head coach Anne Goodman James said. “We continued to try some line up adjustments and are finding some excellent versatility in our team.”
 
Colorado College will take a weekend off from competition before returning to action on Nov. 21-22 at the SCAC West Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
