Tigers finish fourth at SCAC championships

Jocelyn Jenks earned points in three events to help the Colorado College women earn a fourth-place finish at the 2008 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

 

The senior from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., took third in the 1,500-meter run, fourth in the 800 meters and was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that claimed third place to complete the meet with a team-high 12.5 points.

 

Jenks finished the 1,500 in a time of 4:46.09, just .27 seconds out of second place, while senior Megan Zaranek was eighth in 5:00.45.

 

In the 800, Jenks was just .21 seconds out of third in a time of 2:22 .93. Freshman Molly McGee finished ninth in a time of 2:27.33.

 

McGee was the leadoff runner and Jenks ran the third leg on the 4x400-meter relay team that came home third in a time of 4:15.16. They were joined by freshman Chelsea Herzog and sophomore Brittney Moore.

 

Ashely Poland had CC's top finish, taking second place in the 10,000 meters in a time of 40.33.16. She was 21.43 seconds behind the time of Hendrix College's Laura Broederdorf (40:11.73), but a fraction more than 50 seconds ahead of DePauw's Anna DeWitt.

 

The Tigers' most productive event was the 3,000-meter steeplechase, in which Lynch took fourth place in a time of 12:05.60 and Christy Sweaney was just behind with a time of 12:19.60.

 

Zaranek and Poland earned points in the 5,000 meters. Zaranek's time of 18:45.34 was good for fifth place, while Poland was eighth in 19:11.61.

 

Moore, who was second on the team with 11.5 points, finished third in the triple jump with an effort of 33' 6 ¾”, seventh in the 400 meters in a time of 28.21 and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 15' 11”.

 

Senior Jackie Welch cleared a height of 9' 0 ¼” to tie for fifth in the pole vault and was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.01.

 

Freshman Hannah Concannon finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16' 4 ¼” and sixth in the triple jump at 32' 9 ¾”.

 

Colorado College will return to action on May 10 when the Tigers try to post NCAA qualifying times at the Air Force Twilight meet.
