With just four members, Colorado College's crop of incoming freshmen isn't the largest class ever to join the Tigers. But, according to a national Web site dedicated exclusively to Division I women's soccer, it could be CC's best since the program's glory years of the 1980s.
SoccerBuzz.com released its annual assessment of recruiting efforts for the 2008 season this week, league by league across the nation, and has tabbed
Geoff Bennett's as second best in Conference USA.
Bennett, who heads into his fifth season as head coach, announced in early February that goalkeeper
Caitlin Hulyo of Lititz, Pa., midfielder
Kelsey Wise of Allen, Texas, and defender/midfielder Elizabeth Wright of Redmond, Wash., had signed letters of intent to attend and play at Colorado College in the fall. A fourth recruit, midfielder
Erin Rhodes of Redlands, Calif., committed to the Tigers in mid-April.
According to SoccerBuzz.com, which also refers to CC as a “hot mover from '07 to '08,” the small group of newcomers is “exceptional and the best in two decades.” The site earlier rated Wright among the top 75 and Hulyo among the top 200 recruits in the nation. Wise also is included among its “prize gets.”
The Tigers, who will celebrate their third season as affiliate members of Conference USA, have tied for fourth place in each of their two previous years in the league. They open the 2008 campaign on Aug. 22, at home against the University of Oklahoma, with seven starters and 17 letter winners returning from the 2007 roster.
