Seniors Meryn Grant (Calgary, Alberta) and Julian Boggs (Berea, KY) have been named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest Awards as Colorado College's top female and male student-athletes among the 2008 graduating class.

The awards were presented on May 6 during honors convocation at Shove Chapel.

Grant, who will graduate on May 19 with a bachelor of science degree in economics, was the top setter for the Tigers volleyball team that earned an NCAA Division III playoff bid for the 10th consecutive season and finished with an overall record of 22-10. She earned District 7 third-team all-academic honors from the ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America after leading CC with 700 assists and 66 service aces. Owner of a 3.95 grade-point average, she earned Academic All-America honors as a junior in 2006.

Boggs, who has claimed five combined All-America awards in cross country (2005, 2006 and 2007) and track and field (2006 and 2007), will receive his bachelor of science degree in biology. He finished 13th at the NCAA Division III national cross country meet last fall, and was third a year earlier when he won an individual championship in the West Region. Owner of a 3.59 cumulative GPA, he holds school records in both the 5,000 (14:30.1) and 10,000 meters (30:43.01) as a member of the track and field team.

The Van Diest Award has been presented annually since 1936. The Laura Golden Award originated in 1981 and has been won every year except for 1982 and 1995.
