CC finds Florida very unfriendly

Tigers drop 4-1 decision to UCF

With first place in Conference USA at stake on Sunday, the University of Central Florida put the pedal to the floor.

The Knights lived up to their No. 16 national ranking, rolling to a 4-1 victory at UCF Soccer Complex that knocked CC out of a tie for the top spot and into a four-way share for second in the league standings.

Freshman forward Brittney Lyman got the Tigers on the board midway through the second half, recording her third goal of the season off an assist from Emily Beans, but by that time the home team had long since established command.

The game was still scoreless when Beans hit the cross bar in the 25th minute of play. The near miss only served to wake up UCF, which proceeded to grab a 2-0 lead before intermission on tallies by Nikki Moore at 26:58 and Becca Thomas at 41:17. The goal by Thomas came on a free kick after a foul and the first of two yellow cards issued to CC players in the contest.

Amanda Martorana and Courtney Whidden sandwiched goals around Lyman's to account for the final margin of victory and help the Knights improve to 10-3-1 overall and 5-1 in C-USA play.

UCF out-shot the Tigers, 27-13, altogether and put 16 of those attempts on net. Sophomore keeper Caitlin Hulyo made a career high 12 saves for Colorado College, which dropped to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

After two consecutive weekends on the road, in which it went 2-2, CC returns to Stewart Field for its final five matches of the 2009 regular season.
