Brittney Lyman's five goals in the second half of last Friday's 5-2 come-from-behind victory over UTEP continues to attract attention as Colorado College's post-season opener against the University of Memphis draws nearer.
Lyman, who earlier in the week was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, also has been honored as women's POW on a nationwide basis by
Soccer America and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
In addition, the freshman forward from Arvada, Colo., also was among 11 players from across the country named to the College Team of the Week by
TopDrawerSoccer.com, as well as one of 22 identified as Prime Time Performers by
CollegeSoccer360.com.
Lyman's recent performance set a CC and conference record for most goals in a single game and is the top total nationally in NCAA Division I play this season. She took nine shots altogether, and received assists from four different teammates.
With the triumph over UTEP, the Tigers earned a first-round bye in this week’s 2009 C-USA championship tournament. They'll take on Memphis, which advanced on Wednesday night by virtue of a 6-2 quarterfinal victory over tourney host SMU, at 7:30 p.m. (CT) Friday.
In Wednesday's other first-round contest, UAB defeated UTEP, 2-1, in a penalty-kick shootout after two scoreless overtimes. The Blazers will meet regular-season champion UCF in Friday's earlier semifinal.
The nationally televised (
CBS College Sports) championship contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) Sunday.
