Grossinger leads impressive effort at Tufts

Tom Grossinger and Jordan DeGayner each won three events as Colorado College showed its top swimmers could compete with the some of the best in the nation on Friday night at Tufts University.

Devin Wahl added a pair of victories as the Tigers won eight of 14 swimming events and posted seven season-best times while competing for the second consecutive day.

The most impressive performance was turned in by Grossinger, who set season best times while winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.55), the 200 breast (2:14.36) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.36).

DeGayner continued his dominance by winning the 200 freestyle (1:45.56), the 200 butterfly (2:03.99) and the 100 fly (54.11).

“Tommy just keeps dominating the breaststroke events, and winning events outside his specialty every meet,” head coach Anne Goodman James said. “And what can you say about Jordan DeGayner? He finally had some stiff competition, and still took control of all of his events.”

CC also has a dominating presence in the distance freestyle events, where Wahl won the 500 and 1,000 frees for the second day in a row. In his first event, he turned in a time of 10:27.62 in the 1,000, and he finished the weekend clocking in at 5:00.73 in the 500.

Jeff Nadel turned in a time of 2:06.82 in the 200 backstroke and broke the 1-minute mark in the 100 back with a time of 59.61.

“Devin had an amazing weekend, again sweeping the distance events, leaving the competition behind in the back half of the races,” Goodman James said. “Jeff had an impressive 200 back, his fastest untapered time ever.”

The Tigers will be idle until Dec. 4-5 when the McMurry University visits Schlessman Natatorium for a pair of meets, the second of which will include Division II Adams State College.
