Colorado College dropped its first game of the season, falling 65-55 at Nebraska Wesleyan University on Friday night in the 21st Annual Snyder Classic.
Nick Rose poured in a game-high 23 points to pace the Tigers, but Colorado College made just 16 of 57 shots from the floor and finished with a .281 field-goal percentage.
CC connected on only one of its first six shots and had five turnovers as the PrairieWolves jumped out to a 12-2 lead during the opening 5:38. After the Tigers cut their deficit to 14-11 midway through the first half, NWU scored 11 consecutive points to build its biggest lead of the game at 25-11.
Colorado College pulled to within 29-23 on a jumper by Rose 2:54 into the second half, but the PrairieWolves countered with a 9-2 run to take 38-25 lead with 12:11 remaining in the game.
The Tigers cut their deficit to single digits on Rose’s three pointer with 2:01 to play and trailed 59-55 after Jarrell Sweet’s layup with 40 seconds remaining, but that was as close as CC would get.
Colorado College missed its final five shots from the floor and NWU converted on six of eight free throws to build its lead back to 10 points.
Sweet finished with nine points before fouling out with 28 seconds remaining in the game. Brady Ohlsen had a team-high eight rebounds and added six points.
Brett Potter led Nebraska Wesleyan with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
NWU had 47-37 advantage on the glass.
