Tigers earn NSCAA Team Academic Award

Colorado College continued its tradition of excellence in the classroom by earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year.

The Tigers posted a 3.32 cumulative team grade-point average, ranking 22nd out of the 140 teams from all divisions that earned the award.

“Student-athletes at Colorado College have a history of performing well on the field and in the classroom,” Head Coach Horst Richardson said. “We are extremely proud of our team's academic accomplishments and hope to continue that tradition in the future.”

It marked the eighth time the CC men earned the distinction since the award was instituted in 1996. Only nine other programs have been honored more times than Colorado College.

The Tigers were led in the classroom by Logan Boccard and Jimmer Comerford, who earned Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Thirteen men's soccer players were named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Academic Honor Roll for posting at least a 3.25 GPA during the fall semester.

CC was one of only 97 schools to have both its men's and women's teams recognized.

To earn the award, teams must post a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher.
