Jackson Brainerd and
David Wilder received top honors as Colorado College celebrated one of the most successful seasons in program history at its annual awards banquet on Wednesday night.
Brainerd, the first CC sophomore to win the NCAA West Region meet and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Year, was named the team's Most Valuable Runner.
Brainerd paced the Tigers at every meet in 2009, including the NCAA Division III Championship where he earned All-America honors by finishing 18th overall in a field of 276 runners. He also took first place at the Colorado College Invitational and the SCAC championship.
Wilder earned Most Improved Runner after scoring in every meet. He earned all-SCAC honors with a 10th-place finish at the conference championship and all-region accolades by taking 29th at the West Region meet.
Wilder shared the Lance Raymond Award, presented to the team's Most Inspirational Runner, with Robby Caseria. Caseria also represented the Tigers on the SCAC's all-Sportsmanship Team.
Andrew Vierra, who was part of the Colorado College contingent at the Division III national championships, was named Rookie of the Year
Team highlights for the 2009 season included a second SCAC title in three seasons, a third-place finish at the NCAA West Region meet, and a 25th-place finish out of 32 teams at the national championships, five positions higher CC's national ranking entering the event.
