Mindy Stinchfield and Nicole Fazio continued their impressive rookie seasons by winning a combined six events to help Colorado Collegedefeat Adams State College and McMurry University on Saturday afternoon at Schlessman Natatorium.
The Tigers finished with 52 points, while the Grizzlies finished three points ahead of McMurry with 23.
“We had a very balanced effort with a lot of contributions,” Head Coach Anne Goodman James said. “It was a fun meet and I really like our energy.
“We got behind in our training early because so many of our swimmers were in and out of the lineup,” Goodman James said. “We're still a little behind, but I'm starting to see a lot more possibilities.”
Stinchfield won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, and swam legs on two winning relay teams in the final meet of the first half of the season.
Competing on back-to-back days, Stinchfield began the meet by swimming the anchor leg in the 400-yard medley relay, touching the wall in a time of 4:27.88.
She nearly broke her own season-best time in the 50 free set on Friday night with a time of 26.22, and then came back four events later to take the 100 free with a time of 58.06.
Stinchfield finished the meet by swimming leadoff in the 400 free relay, which finished first in a time of 4:11.68. She also swam the anchor leg in the 400 free relay.
Nicole Fazio continued her amazing first season by winning both diving events, winning the 1-meter board with 250.87 points and the 3-meter with 209.32.
Karen Rasmussen gave CC its sixth victory in 12 events by winning the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:47.20.
Whitney Petersen finished second in the 200 free (2:08.81) and the 200 backstroke (2:28.23). On Friday, she set season-best times while winning the 200 individual medley and finishing second in the 100 back.
“Whitney Petersen is a little under the radar,” Goodman James said. “Whitley had a great day and really showed off her versatility. We just have to figure out where to use her. She could be a difference maker at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships.”
The Tigers will be idle until Jan. 13 when they complete their winner training trip in Southern California by participating in the California Lutheran Relays in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
