Colorado College didn't let its season end without a good battle on Saturday.
Playing Wheaton College for the second time in less than 18 hours, the Tigers kept things close for three periods before dropping an 8-4 decision in the consolation game of the Midwest Regional Championships in St. Paul, Minn.
The Thunder, which led 3-2 at halftime, finally wore CC down with four goals in the fourth quarter after being frustrated again by senior goaltender
Lindsay Morrison, who finished with 17 saves.
Freshman
Malia Vitousek scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the defeat, while
Karen Friefeld and
Liz Weber each tallied once. Jaime Grasse recorded three steals.
Vitousek also struck twice in a 10-3 semifinal loss to tournament host Macalester College earlier Saturday morning, with Weber accounting for CC's other goal and
Angela Dang contributing three steals.
Morrison, who on Friday evening made 26 saves in an 8-6 preliminary-round victory over Wheaton, stopped 43 of 57 (.754) shots on goal in the two games against the Thunder during the regional competition at Macalester's Leonard Natatorium.
The Tigers ended the 2009 campaign with a 5-13 overall record.
