Tigers dump Fontbonne in regular-season finale

The Colorado College men’s lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four games with a 9-6 victory over Fontbonne University in the regular-season finale on Friday night at Centene Stadium. 

Toby Cohen struck for a game-high three goals, while Moses Taylor scored twice and had three assists. Brendan Gangl and Carson Christman added two goals apiece for the Tigers.

Cohen put the Tigers ahead for good when he beat John Gornik with 1:02 remaining in the first period to give CC a 4-3 lead after 30 minutes.

Colorado College scored the first two goals of the third period to build a 6-3 lead with 4:28 remaining in the frame, but Griffins answered with a pair of goals to pull to with 6-5 seven seconds into the fourth period.

Taylor scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 5:56 remaining in the game, and then Cohen and Gangl added a pair of insurance goals just 33 seconds apart as CC increased its advantage to 9-5 with 3:40 to play.

Max Pluss improved to 6-1 between the pipes, making eight saves during 45 minutes of action. Gornik had seven saves while going the distance in goal for the Griffins.

The defense came up big for the Tigers, allowing just one goal in six man-up opportunities for Fontbonne.

CC’s Kyle Bishop won 13 of 19 faceoffs and had five ground balls. Christman scooped up a season-high six ground balls.

The Tigers the regular season with a 9-6 overall record, including a 9-5 mark against Division III opponents to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive. The Griffins finished with a 4-8 record.
