Guy Van Arsdale, who recently became the eighth coach in the 47-year history of Colorado College men's lacrosse, will be a guest on Lacrosse Talk with Dan Matthews this Sunday morning (Aug. 2) on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1500.
Van Arsdale will be on the air between 9:22 and 9:40 a.m. and can be heard at http://milehighsports.com/Article.asp?id=1307313.
One of the most respected coaches in the game, Van Arsdale inherits a program that is on the verge of making an impact at the national level. Colorado College finished the 2009 season with a 9-6 record, which included four losses to teams that earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament and a pair of setbacks to the reigning Division II (New York Institute of Technology) and Division III (Salisbury University) national champions.
The Tigers return their top three point producers – sophomore attacker Moses Taylor, who led the team with 38 points (22g/a6a); sophomore attacker Carson Christman, who led the team with 30 goals and added seven assists; and junior attacker Hunter Sprole, who had 24 points (14g/10a).
CC returns three junior goalkeepers – Brendan Hass, Scott MacArthur and Max Pluss – each of whom has experience as a starter.
Colorado College is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, which will begin sponsoring men's lacrosse next season (spring 2010). Birmingham-Southern College, Hendrix College and Sewanee already play men's lacrosse. Southwestern University will add the sport in 2010, while Centre, Millsaps and Oglethorpe will begin competing in 2011.
Men's lacrosse at CC was founded in 1964 by the late Dr. Robert "Doc" Stabler, who served as head coach through the 1974 season. The Tigers claimed six league championships (1966, '76, '90, '94, '95 and '96) while a member of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, which included Division I foes Air Force and Denver.
