Emily Perkins was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week after helping Colorado College win its first five matches of the season and the 2009 Molten Volleyball Pikes Peak Challenge title.
Perkins posted a .344 hitting percentage and averaged 3.44 kills, 2.69 digs and 0.81 blocks per set as the Tigers won 15 of 16 sets during the opening week season.
The junior middle blocker was selected the tournament’s Most Valuable Player by the opposing coaches after she averaged 3.46 kills, 3.15 digs and 0.69 blocks. Perkins also had a team-high 68 points while leading CC to the tournament championship with a 4-0 record.
A product of Plano, Texas, Perkins posted her first double-double of the season and the 31st of her career with 17 kills and 14 digs in the four-set victory over Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She also led CC with a match-high 13 kills and a .556 hitting percentage in the 25-7, 15-14, 25-16 victory over Oneonta State in the team’s final match of the tournament.
Perkins moved up to 10th place on the program's career kills list with 903 and finished the weekend with 802 career digs to climb to No. 15 on CC's all-time list.
The Tigers play their first road match of the season on Tuesday night at Colorado School of Mines, then return home this weekend to play host to the 2009 Molten Volleyball Colorado College Invitational.
