Freshman Nicole Fazio finished second in the 1-meter diving and nearly achieved an NCAA qualifying score for the third time this season on Day 2 of the 12th Annual Colorado College Classic at Schlessman Natatorium.
Fazio's 11-dive total of 385.70 points was less than 10 points off the NCAA qualifying score of 395.00. Earlier this season, Fazio met the qualifying standard on back-to-back days with six-dive scores of 259.87 points at Wheaton College and 264.08 at Tufts.
Sarah Moore from the Colorado School of Mines won the event with 393.25 points, just 6.55 head of Fazio. Diedra Gustafson from the University of Colorado club team was third with 354.90 points.
Karen Rasmussen had CC's top individual finish in a swimming event by winning the consolation final in the 200 breaststroke in 2:42.77.
Rasmussen teamed with Whitney Petersen, Julia Rubenstein and Jean Fryefield for a sixth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
In the 200 individual medley, Katie Burns' season-best time of 2:24.79 was good for a 10th-place finish.
Mesa State owns a 60.5-point lead over Division I Colorado State University on the women's side. The Tigers are in sixth place with 116 points, 19 behind Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Hendrix College, the only other Division III program in the eight-team field.
The CC Classic concludes with 14 events on Sunday. Prelims begin at 9 a.m., followed by the finals at 3 p.m.
