Time runs out for Tigers against Oglethorpe

Colorado College overcame a 10-point deficit with seven minutes remaining, but couldn't get a pair of three pointers to drop in the final 16 seconds and came out on the short end of an 83-80 score on Sunday afternoon at Oglethorpe University.

Alyssa Aldaz poured in 22 points, but her desperation shot from behind the arc wouldn't go down and the Stormy Petrels escaped with the victory.

Colorado College came all the way back to grab a 78-75 lead when Becky Luetjen made one of two free throws with 1:59 remaining, but Sarah Jones tied the game 15 seconds later when Mareva Bone's layup put Oglethorpe in front 80-78 with 43 seconds to go.

Aldaz tied the game at 80 with 33 seconds to play, but OU's Riley Cerone made three of four free throws to close out the scoring.

Luetjen also finished with 22 points and added a career-high seven blocks, six rebounds and five steals.

The Tigers shot just .227 in the first half and trailed 37-29 after 20 minutes. CC rallied to take its first lead of the second half at 44-43 on a layup by Hannah Hoopingarner with 15:10 to play. The Tigers were up 59-58 when Luetjen sank a free throw with 9:51 to go, but Oglethorpe answered with 11 consecutive points during the next 2:49 to build a 69-59 advantage.

The Stormy Petrels were led by Sarah Giles, who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Jones added 16 points, while Katie Weeks had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Oglethorpe finished with a 54-41 advantage on the glass.
