Caroline Costley was named Swimmer of the Week by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for her impressive efforts during last weekend's season opening meets at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Rhodes College.
Competing against Division I and II opponents in her collegiate debut at the UALR Invitational, Costley took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.28), second in the 100 freestyle (55.34) and split 30.04 in the breaststroke during the 200 medley relay.
Her clocking in the 100 breast was 1.78 seconds better than the team's top time last season, while her mark of 55.34 in the 100 free was 0.69 seconds faster than last year's best time.
In a dual meet at Rhodes the following day, Costley finished first in the 200 free (2:01.96) and the 200 breast (2:35.71), and split 1:10.4 in the breaststroke on the winning 400 medley relay team.
“Caroline is an exciting addition to our team and will help move us to the next level,” head coach Anne Goodman James said. “She has a great work ethic and has impressed us in early season training, often beating the men on the toughest sets. She will have a major impact on the SCAC.”
