Turnovers cost Tigers a win at Millsaps

Colorado College missed out on a chance to clinch a spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament by dropping a 70-60 decision to Millsaps College on Friday night.

The Tigers committed 25 turnovers, which led to 33 Major points, and shot just .320 during the second half when Millsaps outscored CC, 23-10, during the final 8:59.

Colorado College trailed 61-57 when Collier Clegg knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:26 to play, but the Tigers missed four of their last five shots and turned the ball over four times to give the Majors their first victory of the season.

Clegg finished with 20 points, the seventh time she reached the 20-point mark in a game this season.

Becky Luetjen finished with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.

Colorado College built an eight-point lead when Clegg scored with 3:07 remaining in the first half, but the Majors grabbed the momentum with an 8-2 run and pulled to within 35-33 after 20 minutes.

Shante Morton made 10 of 13 field-goal attempts and finished with a game-high 24 points for Millsaps.

CC dropped to 12-12 overall and 6-9 in the SCAC. The Tigers need a victory at Hendrix College on Sunday to earn a spot in the conference tournament. The Majors improved to 1-23 overall and 1-14 in league play.
