Brendan Haas

Brendan Haas made six saves and Carson Christman had a hand in six goals to lead Colorado College to a 12-7 victory over the Colorado State University club team on the snow-covered turf at Washburn Field.

Christman scored twice during a five-goal outburst that gave the Tigers a 6-1 lead with 10:04 remaining in the second period.

Cooper Kehoe scored 51 seconds into the second half to trim CC’s lead to two points, but Christman set up a pair of goals 2:51 apart to help the Tigers re-establish control.

Moses Taylor scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 5:13 into the third period after taking a feed from Christman. Taylor finished with two scores and set up another.

Paul Larson scored the first of his two goals with 5:58 remaining in the third, only to see Colorado College strike twice during the final 1:22.

Michael McGeary brought the crowd to its feet when he went the length of the field, splitting a pair of defenders at midfield, and scored with a long stick with 25 seconds to go in the third period.

The Rams added a pair of man-up goals to trim CC’s lead to 10-7 with 7:18 remaining in the game, but Christman scored off a feed from Kyle Wildnauer-Haigney with 1:54 to play and set up Steve Rijo’s tally 58 seconds later to close out the scoring.

Brendan Gangl scored the goal of the game when he beat Alex Jacques with a diving shot near the left pipe after being knocked off balance. Hunter Sprole, Toby Cohen and Buck McKenna also scored for the Tigers.

Larson and Greyson Kondel each scored a pair of goals to lead the Colorado State attack. Kehoe recorded a goal and two assists.

Haas went the distance to earn the victory in goal, stopping six of CSU’s 13 shots on goal. The Rams scored three times while playing a man up. Jacques made six saves on 18 shots for the Rams.

Colorado State won 18 of 24 face-offs and had a 38-24 advantage in ground balls. The Rams committed 20 turnovers, compared to just 15 for the Tigers.

Colorado College plays host to the University of Colorado club team next Saturday at 1 p.m.
