2010 SCAC Championship Results - Day 2
Carrie Markel took fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle and helped a pair of relay teams post season-best times as Colorado College enjoyed another impressive day at the 2010 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships.
Markel started the day by swimming the anchor leg in the 200 medley relay, combining with Whitney Petersen, Karen Rasmussen and Julia Rubinstein for a time of 1:56.09 that was good for seventh place.
Three events later, Markel gave the CC women their top individual finish at this year's championships by posting a time of 1:58.21 in the championship final. Earlier in the day, she posted a season-best time of 1:58.02 in the preliminaries.
In the final event of the night, Markel swam the leadoff leg in the 800 free relay, joining forces with Andrea Tukan, Katie Burns and Petersen for a seventh-place finish in a time of 8:13.34. The Tigers finished one-tenth of a second ahead of Southwestern.
Julia Rubinstein recorded a season-best time of 1:02.58 in the 100 butterfly. Rasmussen's mark of 1:13.00 in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke was a season best, as was Petersen's effort of 1:03.30 in the prelims of the 100 backstroke.
Colorado College trails Hendrix College by five points in the battle for sixth place. The Warriors have 214 points, compared to 209 for the Tigers. DePauw University is on top of the standings with 590.5 points, just 4.5 more than second-place Trinity University.
The SCAC championships conclude on Saturday with six swimming events and the women's 1-meter diving. Preliminaries start at 10:30 a.m. CT, while the finals begin at 6:30 p.m. CT at the University of Louisville's Ralph R. Wright Natatorium.
