Tigers place 14 on All-WCHA Academic Team

CC players cited for excellence in the classroom

Fourteen Colorado College players, including four who emerged as WCHA Scholar Athletes earlier this season, are members of the league's 2009-10 All-Academic Team announced today.

To earn the distinction, member team student-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1) have completed one year of residency at present institution, prior to the current academic year; and 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his overall GPA is at least 3.00 for all terms at his present institution.

Freshmen are ineligible.

The 14 Tigers recognized, listed alphabetically, are sophomore defenseman Art Bidwill, sophomore forward David Civitarese, senior winger Addison DeBoer, sophomore defenseman Gabe Guentzel, sophomore winger Tim Hall, junior defenseman Ryan Lowery, senior forward Brian McMillin, junior goalie Tyler O'Brien, senior forward Matt Overman, senior defenseman Nate Prosser, senior forward Dan Quilico, senior left wing Bill Sweatt, senior right wing Mike Testwuide and senior center Andreas Vlassopoulos.

DeBoer, Lowery, McMillin, O'Brien, Quilico, Sweatt, Testwuide and Vlassopoulos are repeat honorees. Vlassopoulos, who started the current season as a fifth-year senior due to a medical hardship case, voluntarily ended his playing career in early November due to a recurring knee problem.

Civitarese, McMillin, Sweat and Testwuide were named WCHA Scholar Athletes in mid-February by virtue of owning grade-point averages of 3.5 for the same time periods specified for All-Academic status.

A record total of 119 student-athletes, representing all 10 WCHA-member institutions, were selected  to the men's All-Academic Team this year.  Of those 114 individuals, 63 are previous honorees.
