The match wasn't officially over when Evan Jonker and Thomas Modern held on for a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles, but in all reality, it was.
Colorado College improved to 5-7 with an 8-1 victory at Colorado State University-Pueblo on Thursday afternoon, with four of five wins coming in matches where the Tigers won all three doubles points.
“Solid performances at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles got us out to an early lead, and then our No. 2 team hung on to give us the doubles sweep,” head coach Naren Clark said.
Sam Barnard and Will Lindsay posted an easy 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles, while Nate Burt and Lionel Zen-Ruffinen had to work a little harder before coming out on top at No. 1 by an 8-5 count.
The momentum carried over into the doubles matches, where it didn't take long for CC to clinch the team win.
Lindsay pulled CC to within one point of the victory by taking a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles, and Isaac Fuhrman nailed down the victory by prevailing 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 6.
Barnard earned his second point with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 5, while Jonker picked up his second with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2.
“Overall, our performances in singles were solid down the line,” Clark said. “Evan managed to ignore his opponent's antics and stay focused for an easy victory. I was impressed with the focus in all of the singles matches and feel confident moving into the rest of our schedule.”
Colorado College returns to action on Thursday against Montana State University-Billings at 1 p.m. on the Burghardt Tennis Courts.
