Playing its fourth match in three days, Colorado College saw its four-match winning streak come to an end with a 7-2 loss at Rhodes College early Sunday morning.
One bright spot for the Tigers was another impressive performance by Tori Marsh, combined with Deanna Thirkell for a fifth straight doubles victory and won her third consecutive singles match.
Marsh and Thirkell kept CC within striking distance by overcoming a pair of match points during their 9-8 victory at No. 3 doubles. They dominated the tie breaker, 7-1, to keep the Lynx from taking a 3-0 lead heading into the individual contests.
“Tori came up big today,” head coach Perry Wright said. “She is playing the best I've seen her play. Tori's intensity helped carry her and Deanna through in doubles and she was surprisingly consistent and composed in singles.”
The Tigers had a chance to grab points at No. 4 and 5 singles, but Natalie Donnelly dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision and Sally Bryant was edged by scores of 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
“All in all, it was not our best tennis,” Wright said. “I think we were too used to the level of competition we experienced the first three matches, so we were not ready to raise our level enough with the tougher competition.”
Colorado College travels to North Little Rock, Ark., this weekend for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
