Jordan Evans won a pair of matches to help Colorado College cruise to a 5-0 victory over Oglethorpe University on Saturday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Burn Park in North Little Rock, Ark.
Evans teamed with Britt Swenson for an 8-2 triumph at No. 1 doubles, and then prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Sally Bryant recorded the deciding point with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
“Jordan did a great job setting up and closing points,” head coach Perry Wright said. “Sally remained very consistent and wore her opponent down by mixing up her shots and placing the ball very well.”
The Tigers swept the doubles matches for the fourth time this season and improved to 7-0 when taking a lead into singles play.
Deanna Thirkell and Tori Marsh rolled to an 8-2 decision at No. 3 doubles, while Natalie Donnelly and Erin Yamamoto survived at No. 2 doubles by a 9-7 count.
The match was moved indoors due to torrential rains and stopped once the Tigers earned their fifth point.
“I wish we were able to play out the other matches because they would have been good,” Wright said. “I'm glad we won, but we need to step up our game tomorrow in order to take home fifth place.”
CC plays Southwestern University on Sunday morning in the fifth-place match. The Pirates advanced with a 5-4 victory against Centre College.
