New leadership takes shape

Tiger Hockey names assistant captains for 2010-11

Colorado College has filled in another piece to the puzzle for its 2010-11 hockey season with the naming of three assistant captains, according to head coach Scott Owens.

After a vote by the team, the three players who will wear an "A" on their jerseys starting this fall are forwards Tyler Johnson and Nick Dineen, along with defenseman Gabe Guentzel.

Johnson is a senior, while Dineen and Guentzel will be juniors on a roster that will feature as many as 16 freshmen and sophomores.

Senior defenseman Ryan Lowery is the elected captain.

"I'm very excited about our group of captains," said Owens, who enters his 12th season at the helm. "They've shown outstanding leadership qualities during the spring workouts and all four have remained in Colorado Springs to get a head start on their summer lifting program.

"Each brings something slightly different to the table. But, at the same time, they all are on the same page when it comes to leading this team."

Lowery (4g,14a), Guentzel (3g,20), Johnson (14g,9a) and Dineen (7g,4a) combined for 75 points last season. Guentzel was one of only four Tigers to play in all 39 games, while Lowery missed just one, Dineen two and Johnson three.

Lowery was announced as captain at CC's annual post-season awards banquet in early April.
