2011 SCAC Championship Results
Jordan DeGayner gave Colorado College its first individual title at the 2011 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships by winning the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday night at the Conroe Independent School District Natatorium.
DeGayner touched the wall in 21.02 seconds, edging DePauw's Johnny Montgomery by three one-hundredths of a second. DeGayner's winning effort was just .01 off Howie Silleck's school record of 21.01 which was set in 2001.
Kevin Dorff's time of 21.80 was good for second place in the consolation final, while Zane Randell was 16th in 22.44.
In the first event of the night, DeGayner combined with Dorff, Randell and Tom Grossinger to take second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.56. That effort was only a tenth of a second off the school record of 1:25.46 set at the 2009 SCAC Championships.
Devin Wahl set the tone for CC early in the day when he broke his own school record during the preliminaries of the 500 free. His time of 4:43.55 was 4:15 better than the mark he set at last year's conference meet in Louisville, Ky., and 22.48 faster than his top time this season. Wahl finished seventh in the finals with a time of 4:43.81.
In the final men's event of the day, Jeff Nadel, Grossinger, Dorff and Wahl teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay in a season-best time of 3:33.42. The Tigers came home less than two seconds behind Sewanee which took second in 3:31.57.
After six events, the Colorado College is in fourth place with 162 points, just two points behind Centre College. Trinity University is on top of the standings with 304 points, followed by DePauw with 294.
