2011 SCAC S&D - Friday Standings
Jordan DeGayner earned his second individual title on Friday night by winning the 100-yard butterfly at the 2011 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Conroe Independent School District Natatorium.
DeGayner's time of 50.10 was just off his school-record time of 49.83 set in the preliminaries, but it was .63 seconds ahead of Trinity's Spencer Bard who took second. Both efforts met the NCAA 'B Cut' qualifying time.
In the last event of the day, DeGayner shaved .01 seconds off his own school record in the 200 freestyle when he posted a 1:40.13 split while swimming leadoff in the 800 freestyle relay. That effort was more than two seconds faster than the winning time in the 200 free and met the 'B Cut'.
The team of DeGayner, Devin Wahl, Tom Grossinger and Kevin Dorff finished runner-up in the race with a school-record time of 6:55.97, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than the previous mark set in 2009.
In the first event, DeGayner teamed with Grossinger, Michael Bennett and Flynn McGuire to take third in the 200 medley relay in a school-record time of 1:35.46.
Devin Wahl took third in the 200 free with a season-bet clocking of 1:43.02, which was only .41 seconds behind DePauw's Johnny Montgomery and just .73 off the winning time.
Grossinger finished third in the 100 breaststroke in 57.80 after posting a season-best 57.60 in the prelims. Both swims were NCAA 'B Cuts.'
The SCAC championships conclude Saturday with the final six events.
