Box Score Despite shooting a season-high 55.3 percent from the floor, the Colorado College women's basketball team dropped a 59-55 decision to Millsaps College, Friday evening in Jackson, Miss.
The Tigers made 21 of their 38 shots from the floor for a 55.3 field goal percentage, but the Majors had the advantage making 25 of their 66 shots.
Down 7-6 with 16:01 remaining in the first half, Colorado College went on a 7-0 run when freshman
Courtney Tyus hit a jumper and a three-pointer to help the team earn its first lead of the game. Senior
Jordy Stephenson hit a jumper to finish the Tigers' run and extend their lead to 13-10 with 12:32 left in the half.
Millsaps regained its lead when Samantha Perez hit a layup to help spark a 6-2 run with 12:20 remaining in the half. Shante Morton added a layup, while Perez made to baskets from the charity stripe to finish the run and make the score 16-15.
The Majors held onto their lead and went into intermission with a 28-25 advantage over the Tigers.
Millsaps held a 52-45 lead over CC with just under five minutes remaining in the game, but the Tigers attempted a comeback when it went on a 10-4 run to whittle down the Majors' lead to a mere one point with 1:04 left in the game.
Freshman
Shelby Hanssen helped ignite the run when she hit a free throw with 4:52 left in the game. Senior
Becky Luetjen scored the next six points of CC's run, while Stephenson finished the run with a three-pointer to make the score 56-55.
Millsaps finished out the game hitting a layup and a free throw to earn the 59-55 victory over Colorado College.
Tyus led the Tigers on offense with a team-high 12 points. Luetjen led the team on defense with 14 rebounds and added 10 points to earn her eighth double-double of the season. Luetjen also tied her season-high six assists and led the team with three steals.
Millsaps was led by Morton with 18 points. Perez added another 12 points, while Janice Okeke and Velvet Johnson scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Colorado College dropped to 9-8 on the season and 5-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Millsaps improved to 15-2 and 7-1 in conference play.
The Tigers continue on the road as they take on Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., on Sunday at 1 p.m.
