Newcomers pace Tigers on Day 1 of CC Classic

Newcomers Matt Nadel and Austin Howlett each turned in a strong performance en route to a third-place finish to give Colorado College men the lead after the first two events at the 14th Annual CC Classic at the Schlessman Natatorium on Friday night.
 
Howlett posted an NCAA qualifying score of 419.40 in his first-ever 11-dive competition at the collegiate level. He finished just 4.30 points behind Metro State's Abdul Yacubu.
 
In the men's 1,650 free, freshman Nadel finished third in a time of 18:12.89.
 
CC leads the men's standings with 88 points, followed by the CU club team (52), Metro State (50), Colorado Mesa University (20) and the Colorado School of Mines (12).
 
The Colorado College Classic resumes on Saturday with 16 events. The preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., followed by the finals at 5:30 p.m. The 3-meter diving is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
 
The meet concludes on Sunday with the final 16 events.
