DeGayner, Howlett pace Tigers at CC Classic

Senior Jordan DeGayner set a pair of pool records and freshman Austin Howlett set the school record in the 3-meter diving on Day 2 of the 14th Annual Colorado College Classic at Schlessman Natatorium.

With a winning total of 484.25 points on the 3-meter board, Howlett easily surpassed the previous 11-dive standard of 458.60 set by Kris Hammond in 1978. Howlett, who also holds CC's 6-dive record in the 1-meter event, finished 6.85 points ahead of Colorado Mesa University's Brock Martin.

DeGayner established pool records in the preliminaries of two freestyle events on Saturday morning. He touched the wall in 1:43.03 during the 200 free and came back with a time of 46.17 in the 100 free. DeGayner also won both finals on Saturday night.

Freshman Chris Garrity, junior Tyler Larrabee and junior Flynn McGuire teamed with DeGayner for a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:43.13.

Sophomore Kevin Dorff took third place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.57, while senior Devin Wahl finished third in the 200 free (1:48.08) and fourth in the 100 free (49.26).

In the team standings, Colorado Mesa leads CC, 513-415.

The Colorado College Classic concludes on Sunday with the final 16 events. The preliminaries start at 9 a.m., followed by the finals at 3 p.m.
