Wahl, Tigers maintain CC Classic lead

Freshman Danielle Wahl broke a school record for the second day in a row and swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay team to help Colorado College build a 475-303 lead over Colorado Mesa University after Day 2 of the 14 Annual Colorado College Classic at Schlessman Natatorium.
 
With her winning time of 2:15.33 in the 200-yard butterfly, Wahl shaved 3.69 seconds off the previous record set by Leanne Dalton in 2006.
 
The Tigers also got freestyle victories from senior Carrie Markel and sophomore Brenna Day.
 
Markel won the 200 free in a season-best time of 2:01.96, while Day took the 100 free in 55.03. Day's clocking lowered her own season-best mark by .91 seconds and was just .23 seconds off the school record.
 
Sophomore Molly Brown and freshman Abby Sawyer combined with Wahl and Day to win the 400 medley relay by a little less than six seconds with a season-best time of 4:19.61.
 
Brown took second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:17.37 and was runnerup in the 200 backstroke in 2:23.43.
 
Junior Nicole Fazio gave CC its fifth individual victory by winning the 3-meter diving by 16.20 with 411.70 points. Freshman Jessica Badgeley took fourth with a score of 322.05.
 
The Colorado College Classic concludes on Sunday with the final 16 events. The preliminaries begin at 9 a.m., followed by the finals at 3 p.m.
