Box Score The Colorado College women's basketball team hit identical shots from the field against Rhodes College, but free throws were the Tigers demise as CC dropped a 67-60 decision to the Lynx, Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn.
Colorado College and Rhodes each made 18 shots from the field, which included four baskets from long range; however, the Tigers fouled the Lynx 10 more times leading to 18 extra free-throw attempts for Rhodes.
The Lynx sank seven of their extra 18 free-throw attempts, which gave Rhodes its seven-point advantage at the end of the game.
Down 6-3 early in the first half, Colorado College went on a 6-0 run to earn its first and only lead of the game. Junior
Marissa Gradoz sparked the Tigers run when she hit a jumper with 17:08 remaining in the half. Senior
Jordy Stephenson sank a three-pointer, while senior
Becky Luetjen added a free throw to complete CC's run and take a 9-6 lead with 15:06 left in the half.
The Tigers' lead didn't last long, as Lauren Avant made two shots from the charity stripe to help start an 8-0 run and retake the lead for the Lynx with 14:56 remaining in the half. Rhodes held onto its lead and went into halftime with a 35-31 edge over CC.
Colorado College began the second half with a 4-0 run, when Stephenson hit a jumper and Gradoz made two free throws to tie the game at 35-35 with 18:10 left in the game. However, Rhodes went on another 8-0 run to regain and take a 43-35 lead with 16:05 remaining in the game. The Lynx never looked back as it sailed to a 67-60 victory over the Tigers.
Luetjen led CC with 24 points and a season-high 15 rebounds to earn her ninth double-double of the season. Stephenson and junior
Sarah Gunkel also scored in double-figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Rhodes was led by Avant with 21 points, while Sarah Womack and Sharwil Bell each had 13 and 11 points, respectively to help aid the Lynx offense.
Colorado College dropped to 9-9 on the season and 5-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Rhodes improved to 12-5 on the season and 6-3 in conference action.
The Tigers return home next weekend as they host Birmingham-Southern College and Oglethorpe University on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
