Freshman sensation
Austin Howlett broke another Colorado College diving record as the Tigers cruised to a 147-48 victory over McMurry University on Friday night at Schlessman Natatorium.
Howlett won the 1-meter diving with an 11-dive total of 477.67 points, surpassing Craig Clear's standard of 442.05 which had stood since 1986. Howlett now owns three of the Big Cats' four diving records.
Kaleb Roush and
Jordan DeGayner each won a pair of events to pace the Tigers, who won nine of 11 events.
Roush took the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:02.39 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.53.
DeGayner took first in the 50 free with a time of 21.44 and the 100 backstroke with the team's season-best effort of 55.10. DeGayner also swam on victorious relay teams in the 200 medley and 200 free.
Also recording first-place finished were freshman
Brian Kopec in the 200 free (1:51.87) and sophomore
Michael Bennett in the 100 butterfly (55:29). Bennett also swam the leadoff leg for CC's winning team in the 200 free relay.
Colorado College and McMurry will go at it again at noon Saturday in the Tigers' final home meet of the 2011-12 season.
