So long to another legend

Former Tiger Bill MacDonald passes away in Colorado Springs

Tiger Hockey lost one of its all-time greats late last week when Bill MacDonald, a 1952 graduate of Colorado College, passed away at the age of 82.

As a sophomore in 1949-50, MacDonald was instrumental in helping CC skate to the first of its two national championships. He was inducted, along with his entire team, into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.

He recorded a goal and three assists in two games during the 1950 NCAA tournament at the old Broadmoor Ice Palace, as the Tigers routed Boston College, 10-3, in the semifinals then exploded for 10 third-period goals in the third period to crush Boston University, 13-4, for the title. MacDonald set up tallies by Tony Frasca and Cam Berry just 15 seconds apart during the late uprising against BU.

Originally from Hamden, Conn., he remained a resident of Colorado Springs the rest of his life and taught in the Cheyenne Mountain School District for more than 50 years.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
