Led by individual champion and SCAC Runner of the Year Peter Callan, the Colorado College men's cross country team won the 2016 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas. The Tigers placed six runners in the top 10 and finished with 25 points, seven points better than defending champion Trinity University.

"What a great moment for our team," head coach Ted Castaneda said. "We fought tooth and nail with Trinity the whole way through and we knew it would be a dogfight. We didn't really know until last half mile that we were going to win the meet. These guys worked so hard this entire season and it paid off today."

Callan, a freshman from San Francisco, Calif., who was also named the league's Newcomer of the Year, breezed through the 8K course in a time of 25 minutes, 59.28 seconds, nearly 25 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Austin Brown of Trinity. Callan recorded CC's ninth individual victory at the SCAC meet since the Tigers joined the conference in 2006.

Fellow freshman Tony Calderon finished fourth with a time of 26:36.89, followed by senior Conor Terhune in fifth (26:37.34), freshmen Max Blackburn in seventh (26:55.50) and Jack Williams in eighth (26:55.51) and sophomore David Eik in 10th (27:07.31).

Joining those three runners on the all-conference team was junior Ethan Holland (30:07.0), who finished 13th for the second consecutive year with a time of 27:35.82.
