Colorado College announced its 2016-17 hockey schedule today, highlighted by 17 of its 34 regular-season games against opponents that appeared in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
"Once again we will have a very exciting, but tough schedule," head coach
Mike Haviland said. "Next season 10 of our 18 home games will be against NCAA tournament teams, including four against teams that played in the Frozen Four."
After hosting an exhibition game against Mount Royal University (Alberta, Canada) on Sunday, Oct. 2, the Tigers open the regular season with six games against opponents from Hockey East. Following a season-opening weekend at the University of Massachusetts, Oct. 7-8, CC welcomes UMass-Lowell and former Colorado College assistant coach Norm Bazin to The Broadmoor World Arena on Oct. 14-15, followed by single road games against 2016 semifinalist Boston College (Oct. 21) and New Hampshire (Oct. 22).
The Tigers open National Collegiate Hockey Conference play at Omaha on Nov. 4-5, followed by four more games at home, two against St. Cloud State (Nov. 11-12) and single games with Wisconsin (Nov. 25) and Air Force (Nov. 26) during Thanksgiving Weekend.
Following the first of two home-and-home series with in-state rival and 2016 Frozen Four participant Denver on Dec. 2-3, and a pair of games at Miami University, Dec. 9-10, the Tigers close out the calendar year at the Florida College Hockey Classic in Estero, Fla. CC, which finished second in the 2009 Florida Classic, joins Cornell, Merrimack and Northern Michigan for the two-day tournament, Dec. 28-29.
The Tigers, who played the third-toughest schedule in the country during the 2015-16 campaign, will play eight league series in the second-half of the season. Colorado College will host Omaha (Jan. 13-14), defending national champion North Dakota (Jan. 27-28), Denver (Feb. 11), 2016 tournament team Minnesota Duluth (Feb. 17-18) and Western Michigan (Feb. 24-25).
Due to the unbalanced league schedule, CC will only play one series against North Dakota and Miami in '16-17.
Game times and television information will be announced at a later date.
